Marine Engineering Programs and Majors


Marine engineering is the science of keeping sea vessels up and operational. Marine engineers maintain and operate the propulsion and electrical generating systems on board the ship. Without their maintenance and supervision, most modern-day vessels would not be able to run. Because ships and other sea vessels are quite different from traditional machines, your specific training

 
will focus on those aspects of engineering that will prove useful while on the water. Among other things, you will study how to work with electrical circuitry and gas powered engines that have been corrupted by water and/or wind erosion. And increasingly, many vessels have switched to nuclear, pneumatic, and hydraulic technology, so familiarity in these areas will also prove crucial to your success as a marine engineer.
