Material Science Engineering Programs and Majors


Material science engineering is the field that focuses on harnessing various substances (organic and synthetic) for use in modern-day appliances, machines, gadgets, electronics, and anything else upon which rely. The materials one works with range anywhere from metals and ceramics to polymers and semiconductors. One of the major jobs of a material science engineer is to find stronger, more durable, cheaper materials for use in manufacturing.

 
Oftentimes, he or she must find these composites using environmentally safe methods, a very difficult task to say the least. Given the range of responsibilities that a material science engineer must face, it's imperative that he or she master metallurgy, chemistry, a great deal of physics, natural science, and in some cases, structural engineering and architecture.
