Podiatric medicine deals with the study and treatment of feet. Americans spend a substantial amount of time on their feet every day, and as a result, certain ailments and injuries can develop. A podiatrist tries to isolate bad habits, bad posture, and poor foot care so as to prevent future ailments from arising. They also diagnose foot diseases and injuries, and they provide the necessary treatment.

Every state requires podiatrists to be licensed and fully certified before they can start practicing, so attending a four year program is essential in order to enter this field. During that time, you'll study internal and external medicine, anatomy, biology, and chemistry. After your degree, you'll go through a rotation just like regular physicians until you have mastered the requisite skills and training.
